Abstract
On 29 December 2003, Roberto Baggio – then captain of Brescia Calcio – announced his intention to retire from professional football at the end of the season. The announcement was delivered in a rather unexpected interview with the local broadcaster Teletutto. The interview had been recorded several days earlier and kept confidential until it was aired. This episode represents a compelling case study in the evolving interplay between local and national media: the scoop, emerging from a small private television station deeply embedded in regional identity, rapidly echoed across the country’s media and even garnered international attention.
