Abstract
The sharpest and recent rivalry in the history of italian sports journalism is the one between Gianni Brera and Antonio Ghirelli. Two pioneers who started an endless derby between the North and the South Italy – from the 1950s to the 1990s – based on the way of playing football. Defensive play versus attack strategy. The essay analyses these opposite ideologies which resulted in a poisonous controversy in the press and in a famous lawsuit filed by Ghirelli against Brera in january 1961.
